Third annual event benefitting Cardon Children’s Medical Center scheduled for Oct. 27

PHOENIX– Banner Health Foundation, the philanthropic resource for the nonprofit Banner Health, will host the 3rd annual Stars of the Season soirée benefiting Cardon Children’s Medical Center on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Montelucia Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ.
As the signature fundraising event for Banner Health’s only pediatric medical facility, the goal is to raise $250,000 in support of the new Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery program at Cardon Children’s Medical Center.

The Advisory Council of Cardon Children’s Medical Center, a dedicated group of community volunteers led by Tina Curran, is the driving force behind Stars of the Season. Micheline Etkin, local model, philanthropist and entrepreneur, and Dr. Sophia Yang, founder and owner of Sophy’s Clinique Wellness Med Spa, are co-chairing this year’s event. Both women played a role in planning last year’s Stars of the Season event, which raised $225,000 for Cardon Children’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Center.

The cardiothoracic surgery program provides care for children born with congenital heart defects or children who develop heart conditions early in life. Approximately 8 out of every 1,000 newborns have such a defect, which can range from mild to severe. While they can’t be prevented, there are many treatments for the defects and any related health problems.

Cardon Children’s Medical Center is located on the campus of Banner Desert Medical Center, which is known for their general and high-risk obstetrical programs. Over the past 25 years, advances in ultrasound imaging techniques have made it possible for many congenital heart problems to be diagnosed as early as the 12th to 20th week of pregnancy.

Proceeds from Stars of the Season will help launch a robust Cardiothoracic Surgery program at Cardon Children’s. As a result, a plan for care can be developed and implemented from birth – connecting the services of Banner Desert’s Labor and Delivery department with Cardon Children’s Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery department. This seamless plan of care also ensures mother and baby can remain together.

To purchase tickets or to inquire about Stars of the Season sponsorship opportunities, please contact Natalie Hood, director of Special Events at Banner Health Foundation, at (602) 747-GIVE (4483) or via email at Natlie.Hood@BannerHealth.com.
